YOUmedia Network

YOUmedia is a network for schools and libraries that utilize Makerspaces to emphasize learning beyond the classroom.  The learning approach behind YOUmedia is one of connected learning.  Connected learning is defined by YOUmedia (N.D., para 8) as “learning that is socially connected, interest-driven, and oriented toward educational, economic, or political opportunity."

Goals of YOUmedia

The goals of the connected learning approach of YOUmedia are:
  • interest powered
  • peer supported
  • academically oriented
  • production centered
  • networked
  • shared purpose (22)

Useful Things to Know

Available from the YOUmedia website is a toolkit that will help to get your school started, as well as providing a community to assist.  There are a number of resources listed that are available for further reading.  Finally, there are examples listed on the website of successful Makerspaces that use the YOUmedia connected learning approach.
